Welcome, from the Bowman PTO

Dear Bowman Families,

Welcome back to another great year at Bowman Elementary! On behalf of the Bowman Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), we're so glad you're part of this community. Whether you're returning or new to Bowman, thank you for being here.

We've got a calendar full of favorite events and traditions planned this year. To stay in the loop, update your contact info in Membership Toolkit (MTK) and join our PTO. Your membership and support make everything we do possible.

There's no better way to make a lasting impact on our students' school experience than by getting involved with the PTO. A few hours of your time can shape the traditions, events, and opportunities that bring our community together. It can also help ensure the PTO continues to thrive for years to come. No experience necessary, just a willingness to pitch in.

There are so many ways to get involved: in the classroom, at events, or behind the scenes. Every bit of help matters and we hope you will consider volunteering at Bowman. Have an idea for a new event or tradition you'd love to see at Bowman? Email president@bowmanpto.org; we'd love to help bring it to life.

We're excited for a year of learning, connecting, and building an even stronger Bowman community together. See you all very soon!

PTO Meeting

Wednesday, September 23, 6:30pm

Join us as we kick-off our PTO meetings for the 2026-2027 school year! We will start with a brief PTO update, followed by a presentation and Q&A with our school administrators.

Presentation: Intervention & Pre-Referral Process for Special Education

Ever wonder what happens when a teacher notices a child needs a little extra support in the classroom? Public schools are required to have a pre-referral process that dictates the process for providing intervention and reviewing data prior to referring a child for special education testing. To learn more on how our teachers support every student and what is involved, please join us on September 23rd at 6:30PM.

All Bowman PTO meetings are open to the entire school community of parents/caregivers and staff. We hope to see you there!

Submit a question for Q&A with school administrators.

About PTO Meetings

Bowman PTO Meetings are an opportunity to meet other parents/guardians, hear from the school, and get updates on how the PTO is supporting our Bowman community. Each meeting will include a brief PTO update, a presentation from the school and dedicated Q&A time. Presentation topics will rotate throughout the year, focusing on school programs, processes, and topics of interest to families. Have an idea for a future presentation topic? Let us know!

Update Your Family Info in the School Directory & Donate to the Bowman PTO

Join a community that's all in for our kids! PTO membership is a yearly program and our goal is simple: participation from every Bowman family. Membership is free and gets you access to the monthly Bowman PTO newsletter, PTO directory access and connections to school volunteer opportunities.

Donations are an integral part of our funding and always welcome. We raise approximately $150 per child per year to support school programs, fund classroom supplies and staff recognition activities, and organize community events. The Bowman PTO appreciates your donations and contributions!

Maximize Your Contributions with Employer Matching

Did you know you could potentially double or triple your contribution to our PTO through your company’s donation matching program? Last year, just a handful of families unlocked over $8,000 in extra support for Bowman PTO simply by using their employers’ matching programs. When you donate or volunteer, companies like Google, IBM, Microsoft, Moderna, Takeda, Veeva Systems, and many more will match your generosity, turning every dollar or every volunteer hour into twice the impact for our students, staff, and community. Check with your employer about charitable matching programs. We are registered as “Bowman Elementary School PTO Inc.”

To participate, you can either pay as usual in Membership Toolkit for all your PTO donations and submit your emailed receipt to your employer’s charitable matching program OR you can choose “Offline Payment” in Membership Toolkit, pay in your employer’s charitable program portal, then email matching@bowmanpto.org with your receipt. (This option is recommended for programs with long wait times for matching reviews.)

Email matching@bowmanpto.org with any questions or if Bowman PTO needs to be registered with your employer’s charitable program.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can give your child's school. Whether in person at an event or behind the scenes, volunteering is a simple way to make a real, lasting impact and get to know the Bowman community. The science fair, the class celebrations, the enrichment programs your child comes home talking about: all of it happens because parents said yes to something small.

No experience needed, just a willingness to jump in. There's a role for every schedule and every interest — find yours below!

Room Helpers Needed!

Room Helpers are the most vital volunteers in our school by supporting their classroom teachers, organizing volunteers for classroom events, and helping connect their classroom families with the Bowman PTO. It’s a great way to get to know your child’s teacher, classmates, and other parents!

No experience necessary! We have 2 room helper orientations to help you get started:

  • Virtual: Wednesday, 9/9, 7:30pm (Zoom Link | Meeting ID: 650 648 0116)
  • In-Person: Thursday, 9/10, 9am, Room TBD
Sign Up to be a Room Helper
Library Volunteers Needed!

We're looking for volunteers to help out in the Bowman library this year! Library volunteers check in and check out books, assist students during Library class, and help keep the library organized.  No prior experience is necessary, and you can sign up for as many or as few volunteer shifts as you'd like. It's a great way to meet the other students in your child's class, and the students are always excited to see their parent in the library! If you're interested in learning more, please register here to receive information about the upcoming training session. Please note that all volunteers for any school activity, including Library, must have a CORI form on file with the Bowman office. There can be up to a few weeks turnaround time to complete CORI clearance, so it is helpful to submit the form early in the school year.

Volunteer with the PTO

Your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can give your child's school. Whether in person at an event or behind the scenes, volunteering is a simple way to make a real, lasting impact and get to know the Bowman community. Bowman PTO is staffed entirely by volunteers and we have openings that fit any schedule, interest and availability. No experience needed, just a willingness to jump in. When you sign up to volunteer you get to connect with educators, show your child you value their academic success, and meet other parents in our community. Take a look at the volunteer position descriptions or email president@bowmanpto.org with questions or general interest.

Volunteer with the PTO
Bowman Site Council Members Needed!

We are looking for two parents to serve on the Bowman School-Based Site Council for a two-year term! Meetings will be held once a month on a Friday morning at Bowman, most likely before the start of the school day. This is a great opportunity to learn about Bowman, contribute to the Bowman community, and work with the school administration.

If you are interested, please send a short bio (maximum of 150 words) by Tuesday, September 15th at 10am to president@bowmanpto.org. If more than one person volunteers, an election will take place on Back-to-School Open House on Thursday, September 17th.

About Site Councils

As part of the Education Reform Act of 1993, Site-Based Councils were mandated as part of the Act’s decentralization of decision-making. The Site Council is composed of equal numbers of elected teachers and parents, together with the Principal and a community representative. The role of the Site Council is to advise the Principal. At Bowman, Site Council members meet once a month with Bowman teachers to plan ways to meet the diverse learning needs of students; establish a school climate of tolerance and respect for every individual; involve parents in the life of the school; impact safety and discipline; enhance extracurricular activities; and more.

CORI Check Reminder

Please remember that it is district policy that anyone who volunteers (lRoom Helpers, Library Volunteers, PTO events, etc) in our school must have a CORI check completed by Lexington Public Schools. CORI checks are good for 3 years.  For any questions regarding the CORI check, please email Mrs. Ashness (cashness@lexingtonma.org) or Mrs. Barnes (bbarnes@lexingtonma.org) in our Main Office. Get your CORI check done now so you do not miss the fun - this can take up to 30 days!
